What are the best Apples to Use for this Crustless Apple Pie Recipe?

Apples

There are different types of apples that can be used in this recipe. You want to use an apple that will stay firm and not turn into mush when baked.

I’ve discovered that a tart apple like the Granny Smith works in a lot of baking recipes. If you want something a bit sweeter, Braeburn, Honeycrisp, and Winesap apples are all excellent choices.

How Many Apples do you Need for these Crustless Apple pie cups?

Apples

I used 2 apple halves to create thin slices, then I chopped them up into really small pieces with a paring knife. You can use crispier apples if your recipes calls for it.

What Kind of Apples Should I Use?

This is sort of based on preference. I like to use Granny Smith apples because they are tart and have a firm texture. However, you could also use Golden Delicious, Honeycrisp, or any other type of baking apple.

The bottom line is that you want to use an apple that won’t turn into mush when baked. Those tend to be the crispier ones. If your favorites apples aren’t in season, try a different kind of apples when you make crustless apple pie cups… you may end up with something delicious.

If you can bake something in the oven you can make this recipe. If you can cut apples you can make this recipe. Sliced apples and turning an oven on along with measuring a couple of things is pretty much all there is to it.

You will not need a pie plate but you will need silicone muffin tins. The prep time including apple slices should take you less than 10 minutes.

You will need a bowl to mix all of the ingredients together before you bake in the muffin tins.

Warm Apple Pie (Crustless, so don’t get any ideas)

Apple Muffins

There’s nothing quite like a warm apple pie, fresh from the oven. The apples are perfectly tender, the crust is crispy and buttery, and the cinnamon-sugar topping is irresistible. Apple pie is definitely one of my favorite desserts, and I’m sure it’s a favorite for many other people too.

But sometimes, you just don’t want to deal with making a crust. Maybe you’re short on time, or maybe you’re trying to eat a little healthier and want to avoid the extra calories that come along with a traditional crust. Whatever the reason, these crustless apple pie cups are the perfect solution.

These little pies are made with just a few simple ingredients, and they come together in no time. Plus, they’re individual servings, so you don’t have to worry about cutting (and eating) a whole pie by yourself!

Grandmas Apple Pie Recipe

Please don’t be mad grandma, I just don’t like the crust! Thankfully granny smith doesn’t mind. That’s right you can use any type of apples you want for this recipe, but a firmer apple is better so it doesn’t turn to mush.

I mean you aren’t making a homemade pie crust here. These are delicious crustless apple pie cups. Made from cutting the apple halves into slices, then cutting those slices into small pieces.

Cinnamon & Brown Sugar

Brown sugar

I use less sugar in my recipes because I find that the fruit is sweet enough on its own. But if you like things on the sweeter side, by all means, try some brown sugar. Just remember if you add sugar it may caramelize in the oven, so if you add too much it will be very sweet.

You can also add a few ground cloves or nutmeg to the cinnamon-sugar mixture. I like to keep things simple, but feel free to experiment!

What are some other toppings I can use?

Apple crumble cookies

In addition to the traditional ice cream, there are a few other toppings that would be delicious on these crustless apple pie cups.

Try one of these:

– whipped cream

– chopped nuts

– chocolate chips

– crumbled bacon (yes, really!)

No matter what topping you choose, I’m sure you’ll love these little crustless apple pie cups.
